About Our Story

Today, as when it was established, KPIS teachers are highly qualified, dedicated and nurturing, and they continue to be the backbone of the school's program. They remain extremely committed to building strong relationships with students and their families.

Founded in 1998, Komazawa Park International School was started by a Japanese couple. While they searched for a preschool for their son, they recognized the need for a school that would offer children an educational experience that was child-centered and play-based in a natural environment.

Beginning with only a few students in a rented apartment, Komazawa Park International Preschool/Kindergarten, as it was then known, started to attract an increasing number of families passionate about the school's unique philosophy of "free learning through free play".

The school’s reputation for commitment to quality grew, and KPIS began to establish itself as a well-respected preschool within the international school community. In 2006, to accommodate its rising student enrollment, KPIS moved to its specially designed campus near Komazawa Olympic Park.

During the following years, the school expanded its programs as well as its facilities with additions such as a private play-yard, garden, sandpit, log house and wooden deck, all of which provide various outdoor spaces for students to learn and explore.

In the autumn of 2018, the school entered into an agreement with Showa Women's University, and with its new partnership, KPIS endeavors to attain further excellence as it strives to become a model of Early Childhood Education in Tokyo and beyond by delivering high quality preschool education.
